Ebenezer Amakato, a passionate musical instructor, sought a path that would challenge him, push his boundaries, and lead to personal growth. This opportunity came in the form of the WAVE Training.

Ebenezer's journey began when he stumbled upon the WAVE IT and Employability Skills Training program on Facebook. Excited by the chance to further develop himself, he eagerly applied for the training.

"What stood out for me during the training was the time management class. It helped me organize my time because I love to multi-task, and sometimes I find myself not doing much because I did not manage my time properly."

In addition to time management, the training covered Emotional Intelligence, Teamwork, and Interviewing skills, providing Ebenezer with all the tools needed for success in the workplace. "I felt it was an avenue to further develop myself and become a better person, more relevant," he shares.

On the technical aspect of the training, Ebenezer found topics like Graphical User Interface, Error Handling, Data Structures, Database Management, and SQL instrumental in solving real-world problems, giving him a peek into what the backend of software development looks like.

However, Ebenezer’s story is not devoid of challenges. Amidst the training, he faced financial hurdles, particularly with transportation costs during the period of subsidy removal earlier in the year. Undeterred, he reached out to friends for support to continue attending the training.

"There were times during the training I felt like giving up, but I received encouragement from my fellow trainees, and that was helpful," he reflects.

As the training concluded, Ebenezer now envisions applying his skills in real-world scenarios through internships and volunteer opportunities.

"Now that I am done with the training, I intend to intern, be part of solving real problems, and put my skills to work."

I really love the transformation that Wave is causing in the lives of the young people. Mary's experience just stands out. She is more equipped to live. This and more is what young girls especially need to compete favorably in Nigeria. Apart from the people that are in Lagos state, how can youths from other states participate in this training? How much does the training cost? Before I go, I really appreciate the leadership of West African Vocational Education. God richly bless you. Thank.
