Being without a job and doing house chores was not what Esther bargained for after her HND. She was restless and fed up with staying at home all day. That’s where her job search began.

From telling friends, coursemates, and family members to inform her of any job opportunities they find, it was a friend that told her about us and the training we offer. At first, she felt the whole training was too good to be true but she took the opportunity because she had time on her hands.

Esther began her training with the Batch 44 in Yaba and she shared what her experience was like; “My biggest challenge was the amount I spent transporting myself from Ajegunle Apapa to Yaba every day and this made me late sometimes even when I wake up very early, traffic was a huge factor in getting to training late”.

She explained that the training also opened her eyes to some skills she never thought would be relevant such as Communication, Emotional Intelligence, Problem-solving, financial management, and many others.

After training, she did her job shadow at Hans and Rene, a Confectionaries store in Lagos where she put all she had learned into practice. Esther’s diligence and work ethic were responsible for being retained after her job shadow. Now, she can fend for herself and assist her parents and siblings.

Esther's dream is to work in an accounting firm because she enjoys the world of calculation. Her plan is to improve her Accounting competence which would improve her chances of getting a job in the financial industry and she intends to accomplish this by getting a B.sc and M.sc degree in Accounting and also putting to use Communication, Excel, Emotional Intelligence, and negotiating skills she has gained.

Her advice to job seekers is to go through the WAVE training as every piece of advice they need to get a job will be given to them during the course of the training.

Her story is inspiring. I feel motivated. She is a young girl who at a tender age knows what she wants and she is working towards becoming her dreams.

I really love the transformation that Wave is causing in the lives of the young people. Mary's experience just stands out. She is more equipped to live. This and more is what young girls especially need to compete favorably in Nigeria. Apart from the people that are in Lagos state, how can youths from other states participate in this training? How much does the training cost? Before I go, I really appreciate the leadership of West African Vocational Education. God richly bless you. Thank.
