After graduating with a degree in Business Education in 2014, Omofolake had a chance encounter with us that happened while she was job hunting; she received a text message from her Local Government (Somolu LGA) on one of those days of job hunting informing her about our training for young people.
”I decided to go through the training because I had some free time and as the training progressed, I was glad I made that decision because I learned how to write a CV, about being self-aware, and also about Digital Marketing, Financial Management, and some other soft skills. It was all fun and an eye-opener for me”, she said.
Omofolake job shadowed at a restaurant in Victoria Island Lagos and found the experience exciting because she had the opportunity to not only practice the skills she had learned in class but also to pick up some culinary skills.
After her job shadow, Folake received a job offer at Trinity Apartment Ikoyi where she worked as a Digital Marketer and Sales Attendant for only 3 months due to the company downsizing. After this, she got another job as a Sales Associate at Life Store Pharmaceuticals Sabo Lagos and she was thrilled that the skills she has learned have made communication and problem-solving less of a hassle. Using hospitality skills that she picked up during her training, she is able to interact with customers, assist them in making choices, and pacifying disgruntled customers.
Omofolake’s dream job is one within the Pharmaceutical industry as she feels she has gained both technical and soft skills to work anywhere.
She advises job seekers to start small, and not pursue jobs only because of the salary but to learn and gain mastery in their preferred field so that they are properly equipped for future opportunities.
