Leadership goes beyond holding a position of authority; it involves nurturing and inspiring those around you. We are delighted to announce the successful graduation of our first Future Leaders Training cohort.
These young individuals have now acquired the necessary employability and leadership skills to become confident and productive contributors to society. They are well-equipped to effect positive change in their communities and workplaces.
The comprehensive training program encompassed various employability skills such as Systems Thinking & Teamwork, Effective Communication, and Time Management. Additionally, participants received modules on leadership development, covering topics like leading diverse teams, conflict resolution, vision casting, and civic engagement. These modules empower them to make meaningful impacts within their communities.
The training which is implemented by Leap Africa and funded by the MacFoundation and Ford Foundation serves as a platform to enable more young people to cultivate their leadership potential and fulfill leadership roles wherever they find themselves.
As part of the training, participants engaged in a civic project aimed at addressing social issues and applying their newfound knowledge. The groups were involved in different projects within the Yaba and Surulere communities. The first group conducted a school sensitization program on the consequences of drug and substance abuse among Nigerian youth at Ijeshatedo Senior Grammar School in Aguda, Surulere. The second group organized an environmental sanitation initiative on Tejuosho Avenue in Yaba. Lastly, the third group conducted a sensitization program on the issue of school dropout as a social problem at Eletu Odibo Senior Grammar School in Abule Oja, Yaba.
Through these civic programs, these young individuals have further honed their leadership skills and have developed a heightened awareness of their communities. They are now more inclined to identify ways to enhance their surroundings, knowing that they have the ability to take action and bring about positive change.
